Joel Cotterill is confident that the quality of Swindon Town’s performances will get them the win they are searching for following a 2-1 defeat to Exeter City.

The Welsh youth international scored his first Swindon goal with a thunderbolt from 25 yards just two minutes after Ed Francis had given Exeter the lead, but Jack Aitchison scored a curler from outside the box to give the Grecians the win.

Cotterill felt that Swindon again put in a display worthy of taking three points back to Wiltshire at St James Park and is not concerned with where the team are.

He said: “I am really frustrated to come away from that without the win or the three points, which In think we deserved as we created the better chances.

“But building on that, I think we are in a good place going into the weekend and hopefully we can go there and get three points.

“I think that the performances will get us to where we need to be and I think we have shown that, it is just the final bit that we are missing.

“I think that is building now because we have got a very strong squad with very good players and we can build from that.

“Now it is just about the final third stuff, getting some better decision-making, defensively as well.

“But I think that the three points will start coming very soon.”

Cotterill’s goal was a marvellous strike to get Town back on terms just two minutes after the opener and is his second goal in professional football, after scoring for Stockport County against Sutton United last season.

He said: “The ball was just coming out to the edge of the box and it was there to hit and obviously I have hit it perfectly.

“I just knew it was going to be a good hit and then it has gone right in the corner, so I was delighted with that.

“I think doing that is a big part of my game, ball striking off both feet, so I think that anywhere around the box, I want to try and create a yard of space and get some shots off.

“First-team football is what I needed, I had a little taste of it last season with Stockport but coming here now and playing week in, week out is very important to build my confidence and my game, to try and help everyone around me.”
