Swindon Town are looking to improve the matchday experience at the Nigel Eady County Ground to help boost falling attendances at the start of the season.

Following a historically poor 2023/24 season, Town have begun this season with crowds in the first two home games more than 1,000 down on the previous three seasons, after it was revealed in August by the Advisory Board that season ticket sales were less than 4,000.

When asked about the falling attendances so far this season, Clem Morfuni and Anthony Hall said they felt improved performances would be needed to win fans back.

Morfuni said: “It’s always a concern, if we start winning then the numbers will go up but we have budgeted for the worst-case scenario.

“We are making sure that we get it right on the pitch to get the fans coming and also interacting with the supporters.

“Last season wasn’t good enough and so the attendances went down.”

Hall added: “In terms of monetary value, we are at the same numbers as where we were last year, although we are down by a certain number.

“We understand the disappointment and we sat down at the end of last season and we are working with what we have done with the budget and signing players.

“Hopefully fans can see that, we would have liked to have had a better start than we have had but the team needs time to gel.”

Hall added that he felt the matchday experience for fans needed to improve along with the football to encourage them to spend more time at the ground on game days.

He said: “I think that the whole matchday experience needs to be looked at, and it is something that we spoke about in the Advisory Board yesterday. How do we get fans in earlier?

“Myself and Clem met with a fan last week and we spoke for a long time and he said the matchday experience other than the game, what really is there?

“The fan zone has been approved, which will be coming to fruition in November with the first part of it, the unveiling of the Don Rogers statue.

“There is stuff that needs looking at and one of the challenges for Vicki [Eyles, Fan Engagement Officer] and the football club is to improve that.

“We want to be able to get fans here earlier and to engage more, so it is about the whole day and not just from three o’clock.”
