Mark Kennedy believes there are plenty of positives when you look beyond just the scorelines for Swindon Town this season.

Swindon take on Newport County this weekend in search of their first win of the season across all competitions.

Kennedy said that, as a head coach, he has to look at the long-term indicators of success and he is seeing plenty of signs to believe in the performances of the team.

He said: “From a defensive point of view and an attacking one, we are in a really good place but football is about results.

“I remember leaving a game once and we won 2-1 and it was the most diabolical game I have ever seen and there were fans jumping up and down because we won 2-1 and I have walked away from stadiums when we have been outstanding and been on the wrong end of results and people are not happy.

“People are emotionally attached to the results but when I look at the data of what we are doing, they would heavily suggest we are going to have a successful season.

“Think of any business, Amazon or Apple, they don’t just hope they get all of these sales, they work off of processes and have different metrics – football is no different.

“We are really pleased at what we are looking at and we are not deluded, we haven’t got some Holy Grail next door, we are looking at things everybody is looking at.

“And when I see training with my own eyes, these never lie to me, and I feel we are in a good place.”

Kennedy added that he believes he will get the time to bring those things to fruition and get the most out of what he sees as a very talented squad.

He said: “I spoke to someone yesterday and they said ‘Do you think you will get time?’ and I said ‘I haven’t joined a football club for five games, I would have stayed at home.’

“Think of business start-ups, you have to start somewhere, there has been a lot of change in the club and what I have seen so far is huge strides.

“My brother asked me what I thought of my squad and I said ‘If I left tomorrow and someone else came in I would say they have won the lottery.’

“It is what I see on a daily basis that makes me feel really confident.”
