Mark Kennedy said that Swindon Town's 4-0 victory over Newport County was vindication of the work they have been doing so far this season.

Kabongo Tshimanga swivelled in the area to slam home Town's opener after just four minutes to get them off to a flying start.

Paul Glatzel got the second not long after and then was involved as a combination of him and Matt Baker turned home a third before Joel Cotterill rounded it off on the stroke of half time.

Kennedy said that he didn't feel like the performance had been too dissimilar to the previous games, even if it had been a resounding result.

He said: "I think that the performance is just another example of the work we have been doing.

"I think that the performances have been really good, with the exception of Walsall, and that includes playing two League One teams, and this was just evidence of what we have been doing.

"I keep saying it, unfortunately football is about results and results can mask and hide performances, so I sit here as calm and balanced as I was when we lost to Notts County.

"I try not to get too emotionally attached to the result and focus on the process of what we are trying to do and I am really confident in that and in the group we have, because we see it in training every day.

"I am pleased for the players and I am pleased for the fans because, I hate the phrase elephant in the room, but everybody wants a result.

"I am not really bothered about it, I know what is going to come but it is nice to get your first win and ultimately it breeds more confidence."

Kennedy added that despite them hitting four in one game despite having scored just three goals in the previous five matches, he felt that a lot about the performance was as good as the previous games.

He said: "Our metrics on what we are trying to do are really high and today's were the same as the other games in terms of crosses, touches in the box, and successful crosses.

"We were more clinical, Glatzel's header was phenomenal, the save the 'keeper makes from Glatzel before Joel's is incredible but the finish was clinical.

"You couldn't argue if we had won by six today because the 'keeper has pulled off a couple of really good saves.

"I think that there is always room for improvement but I didn't think that the scoreline flattered us, I think it was very fair.

"I keep saying to the players that when we put crosses into the box you need to be running into the net.

"It is a bit like when you watch 60-metre races and they have the padded area behind and I want them to use the net like that.

"That was very clear today because even for the own goal, Glatz and Kabs [Tshimanga] ended up in the back of the net."
