George Cox said that it was a perfect first start for him as Swindon Town ran away 4-0 winners against Newport County.

Cox was handed his first start after coming off the bench last week and played a huge part as Kabongo Tshimanga, Paul Glatzel, an own goal from Matt Baker, and Joel Cotterill set Town on the path to their first win.

Cox said that it was the perfect way for him to start life for Swindon at the Nigel Eady County Ground.

He said: "I don't think it gets much better than that to be honest, being 4-0 up at half time, I would have liked to play for a little bit longer but I think it was the best decision to come off. Perfect, really.

"I think the game was massively in our hands at that point and I think that managing my minutes and my high speed running was important because I had done quite a lot in the first half.

"As a team we executed the plan really well, we knew that we could outplay them and use our qualities and we did that perfectly today."

All four of Swindon's goals came from balls into the box and Cox had a big hand in delivering those crosses.

The former Fortuna Sittard man said that exploiting that weakness in Newport had been a big part of the gameplan that we was more than happy to help with.

He said: "We knew before the game [that they struggle defending balls into the box] and we have multiple people with good deliveries, so we knew when we got into those areas that if we put a ball into the box then it was going to be a problem for them.

"It was nice for me [to get my first assist], hopefully there will be a lot more to come because I could have had two today but I will settle for the one.

"I think it is a factor of they [the strikers] know what I am going to do and where I am going to put the ball.

"I think you can see that already after a week or ten days that they already know what I am going to do.

"I think that there are going to be a lot more opportunities for them to score and a lot more opportunities for me to get assists."
