Danny Butterworth said that he has a point to prove against former club Carlisle United when they take on Swindon Town this weekend.

The 25-year-old signed for Swindon from Carlisle on Deadline Day and has made two league starts since his arrival, scoring his first goal for the club back in Cumbria against Barrow to secure a late draw.

Having scored four goals in 31 appearances during his solitary season at Brunton Park, Butterworth will quickly be playing against his former club as they visit the Nigel Eady County Ground this weekend.

Butterworth said that despite enjoying his time at the club and wishing the players the best for the campaign, he would like to prove a point against his former employers.

Speaking after he joined Town, he said: “It was a really difficult year last year, we lost a lot of games and got relegated, so that is never a nice feeling or something you want to be involved in.

“But I am sure that the lads will turn it around this year and have a good season, so good luck to them.

“[On playing them again] I just look at it as proving a point and things like that and I hope I do well.”

His old boss at Carlisle, Paul Simpson, who said the reason for his lack of pitch time was entirely due to performance, has since departed the club and they are still yet to confirm his replacement, although MK Dons boss Mike Williamson is heavily in the frame.

When asked upon his arrival at Swindon about how the move had come about, he said part of his reason for joining Swindon was the desire to feel wanted again.

Speaking to club media, he said: “It was alright, a good experience for me and it is a great changing room up there and things like that.

“There are probably other things behind closed doors that is probably why it didn’t really happen [for me], to be honest.

“I had a really good chat with the gaffer [Mark Kennedy], he phoned me up and I think that is what I need at the minute, someone who believes in me and wants me to play for them.

“So I was more than happy to come down when I had that conversation with him.

“It probably hasn’t happened [being wanted] over the past but the gaffer here now has put a lot of faith in me.”
