FOOTBALL clubs are paying tribute to former Shrivenham FC midfielder Jack Badger, who died aged 24.
His current team, Abingdon United, confirmed the news in a social media post earlier today, remembering a ‘character on and off the pitch’.
The post saw several quotes and replies from other clubs and those wishing to pay tribute to Badger.
The club posted on social media: “Abingdon United are devastated to learn of the sudden passing of our first team player and dear friend Jack Badger.
“Our thoughts at this hardest of times are with all of Jack’s loved ones, his family, his friends and his teammates.
“A character on and off the pitch, Jack will be missed by all of us at Abingdon United. You are so loved Jack, rest in peace our Badge.”
His former club, Shrivenham FC, also paid tribute: "With the heartbreaking news of an ex-Srivenham player has sadly passed away. Jack Badger, played with Shrivenham FC in the 21-22 season and played 15 games.
"We send our condolences to his loved ones and all those that were luckily enough to know him."
Abindgon's post was quoted by Oxford United, who said: “Everyone at Oxford United is devastated to learn of the passing of U’s fan Jack Badger.
“We send our sincere condolences to Jack’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Abingdon were due to face Didcot Town in the Hellenic Veterans Prem Division on Wednesday evening, but the fixture has been postponed out of respect for Badger.
The Railwaymen posted: “The Veterans League clash between Didcot Town and Abingdon United this evening has been postponed following the sudden passing of Abingdon first team player Jack Badger.
“Everyone at Didcot Town would like to offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jack and to everyone involved at Abingdon United. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
One of Badger’s former clubs, Wantage Town, remembered a player who ‘wore his heart on his sleeve’ on the pitch.
The Freds posted: “Everyone at Wantage Town is devastated to learn of the passing of former player Jack Badger.
“On the pitch he wore his heart on his sleeve and off it, never had anything but a cheeky smile on his face. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
