Swindon Wildcats took home their first four-point weekend of the NIHL season with victories over Solway Sharks and Berkshire Bees.
A comeback on Saturday and a defensive team performance on Sunday, saw the Swindon Wildcats defeat Solway 6-2 and Berkshire 3-1.
Coach Aaron Nell was the hero on Saturday as he scored four goals including the game-winner.
The away side started on the front foot and opened the scoring with a lovely tip-in from Nolan Gardiner.
Then at 11:17, the Sharks got a powerplay opportunity and after a scramble in front of the net, Gardiner received the puck and fired it through Renny Marr to get his and Solway’s second of the game.
The Cats really took control of the game in the second period with a lot of puck possession and the pressure was eventually rewarded with coach Nell firing the puck low into the net.
Then Jake Bricknell received the puck and had plenty of time to dispatch his shot into the top corner to level it.
With the Sharks getting into some penalty trouble, the Cats took full advantage of the five-on-three with Nell first timing the puck into the top corner.
It was then another fast start for the Cats scoring on the powerplay early in the final period. Chris Jones first timed the puck past Jordan Marr.
The Sharks got a powerplay opportunity late into the game, but after some fantastic forechecking from Tomasz Malasinski, he got the puck and passed it to Nell who fired low to complete his hat-trick before he made it 6-2 after The Sharks had pulled their ‘keeper.
On Sunday it was the Cats who scored the early goal. Ed Bradley, the former Bee, found space and fired past Max Wright.
The Bees battled back into the game with Balaz jumping in on a rebound and backhanding the puck over Marr to tie it up.
However, less than three minutes later the Cats would get their lead back, as Pakozdi capitalised on a scramble around the net to score.
Then came the turning point of the game. Pakozdi took a high stick to the face, and a Bees goal was called back for the high stick meaning the Cats got a powerplay opportunity, which Billing scored from to give the Cats a two-goal cushion.
The final period was a fantastic defensive effort from the Wildcats, they killed a five-on-three and a five-minute penalty with Renny Marr making some unbelievable saves to hang onto the 3-1 win.
