Will Wright said that Swindon Town maintaining their belief in themselves will be pivotal in them turning around a slow start to the season.

The 4-0 victory over Newport County remains the only win Swindon have recorded this campaign following a disappointing performance and result at Port Vale.

Wright said that the team maintaining the belief in themselves and creating moments that establish that will be needed to turn around the momentum.

He said: “It is a massive part of it and it has to be, if you don’t have the belief then you don’t really have anything I don’t think.

“Listen, we still believe in there [the changing room], we just need to show more moments and bring those moments out on the pitch.

“You can see the moments when we do break through the press and there is almost like a lightbulb going off of ‘Ooh we can get through this’ and we need more of those moments.

“We need to do that and make the pitch big and make it tough for opponents to play against.

“The more you get of them then the more belief you will get and eventually we will start turning results around.

“We will stick together, we will start getting it right, we will start putting some points on the board, and score some goals so the fans can celebrate.”

Swindon head to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night hoping to use that quick turnaround to their advantage.

Wright said: “Yeah [it does increase the desire]. It is probably not far off that stage where we are desperate for a win and you don’t want to let it go too long and let it get to that moment where you are thinking ‘Where is it going to come from?’

“We need to put this performance right, we need to get a result and that is what we will be looking to do on Tuesday night.

“I know it is a long way to go and it is a Tuesday evening, so I am not expecting a massive following, anyone that goes will be a credit to themselves and as many as we can get it will be great.

“We have not given them much to cheer about, so it is probably off our back if we don’t have a big following, but we need to give those guys something to start getting us together and clawing our way up the table.”
