Aaron Drinan said that one result could change everything for Swindon Town and set them back on course for competing at the top end of the table.

Swindon have won just one match from their opening 12 across all competitions, leaving them eight points adrift of the playoff places already and having to compete at the wrong end of the division during the early stages of the season.

Drinan said that he believes that this squad is capable of challenging for the post-season and it could just be one result which alters their course, as happened for Doncaster Rovers last season as they won ten-in-a-row at the end of last season to make the playoffs in improbable fashion.

He said: “I think that it literally can just be one game where you feel that everything goes for you.

“Once you just get one win, which I presume is what happened to Donny last season, they weren’t winning and then maybe they got that one win away from home or at home.

“Once you get one win it has a massive effect on your confidence and that is really all you can go off.

“Wins are what give you the confidence and that is obviously what we need.”

The Irish striker added that it was important for the team to maintain their belief and stay mentally tough to try and get themselves out of this rut and towards the end of the table they want to be at.

He said: “It is psychologically tough when you are not picking up three points or when you expect to do it.

“We want to be playing unbelievable football, we want to be beating teams two or three-nil every single week, that is what we are aiming to do.

“Being in those automatic positions or up and around the playoffs, teams need to be mentally strong when they are in times like this.

“Teams have gone on decent runs now but that might end at Christmas and they might have the same kind of run we are having.

"Donny last year is a good reference, we don’t want to be in that position, we want to pick up more points before they did but stranger things have happened.

“We will just keep believing because we believe that we are seeing progress even though we are not getting the three points that we want.”
