Swindon Harriers under-15 boys’ team continued their recent success with bronze medals in the English Championship.
Just two weeks after winning the Midlands Counties Road Relay title, Finley Byrne, James Mayneord and Jesse Bryant claimed bronze to carry on a superb start to the Autumn season.
Team manager John Dill was happy with the performance: “I’m just delighted for the boys that they all ran quicker than in the Midlands and won Bronze Medals.
“We have a great bunch of under-15s, including Harry who played his part at the Midlands. That third place was really the cherry on the cake for us.
“Overall, it was brilliant to see so many teams participating across all the age groups. That was the big success of the day for me.”
The under-15s had another four teams that finished in Birmingham’s Sutton Park, with one side being incomplete.
Unfortunately, confusion struck the under-17s A team in the takeover zone with final leg runner Matthew Hunton not being notified that Ben Charlesworth was finishing so he spent 10 minutes waiting which sent the A team to the back of the field.
“We were quite well in the mix after a good start from Anubis (Molina-Zekri) and Ben and our eventual 67th place doesn’t reflect that at all,” Dill clarified.
Other Harriers teams also performed on the day as the under-17s women’s squad finished 24th, the under-13s girls and boys squad placed 29th and 28th whilst the senior men improved from the Midlands as they came 31st.
