Mark Kennedy said that he will "never forget" the response of the fans as Swindon Town won 3-2 at Cheltenham Town.

Swindon finally got their first win in Cheltenham but were made to work hard for it during a made game of football at The EV Charging Points Stadium.

George Cox, Will Wright, and Joel McGregor all came up from the back to score and seemed to have Town in an unassailable position early in the second half.

But George Miller and Ethon Archer both turned home from low balls into the Swindon penalty area to create a nervous finish to the match where Town just about gritted it out.

Kennedy heaped praise on the 1,500 travelling supporters and said they were the ones that got the team over the line to take all three points for the first time on the road this season.

He said: "That was amazing and I said that it was quite touching for me and all of the players [at the end].

"That was a real moment and I am so pleased for everybody: the players, the staff, and particularly the fans.

"As a head coach, we are in the background saying that we have taken points in seven of our 11 games, that is a magnificent achievement, but unfortunately only two of those have been wins.

"People want to see wins and I was so pleased today that our fans got a win and the players got to share it with them and connect.

"Because it is such a small ground, I thought it was quite an emotional and intimate connection there.

"On the far side here they were all on the pitch, it was phenomenal.

"Sometimes in football you don't always see it and you get criticism but today was a great example of how connected we are as a club with our fans and the team.

"That was something I will never forget and the players were talking about in the dressing room.

"A huge thank you to the fans because they got us over the line today."

Speaking about the performance, Kennedy said that although it was not the team's best display of the season, he was hugely pleased with how his players got the three points.

He said: "I was absolutely delighted [with the resilience], unfortunately I felt we brought it on ourselves but from there we showed our mental toughness and physical toughness to deal with an onslaught of aerial balls.

"I thought we more than dealt with what they threw at us.

"By hook or by crook you have to find a way of getting three points and there will be games where you don't play great, I didn't think we were brilliant today by any stretch of the imagination.

"My only disappointment was that I didn't feel the scoreline reflected the game because I thought we were comfortable 3-0 winners and we even missed a couple more big chances but it was huge credit to Michael [Flynn] and his team for making it tough."
