Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann admitted that his side would have been ‘disappointed’ if they didn’t take all three points on Saturday.

The South Yorkshire team almost had to settle for a point until Joe Ironside won the game from the spot in the final seconds of the game.

Speaking after the tie, McCann was happy with his team’s performance and was relieved that they managed to steal the victory late on.

He said to club media: “I would have been really disappointed to draw this game today given the matter of how we played, but I’m really happy we got the winner.

“We won the game from two set plays and that’s what you have to do to keep yourself at the top end of this division.

“It was a great well worked corner [the first goal] that the boys had been religiously working on in training.

“And I’m pleased for whatever reason the Swindon player puts his hand up in the air to get us the winner.”

The former Hull manager then discussed the Robins’ goal that came through Harry Smith in the second half.

“The goal that Swindon scored was probably the only real big chance they had in the game.

“I’m not trying to be disrespectful because I thought we were really good defensively and looked organised.”

Mark Kennedy described how beneficial a draw would have been and how it would have changed the outlook of the last few games.

“If you walk away having taken a draw, you’d say ‘right, we’re really heading in the right direction, you can see something happening here, we’re unbeaten in five, look at the teams we’re playing against, look at the results we’re having’.

“We’ve beaten Cheltenham away, we would be taking a result against Doncaster, we’ve beat Bristol Rovers 4-0, so it’s really important we don’t get sidetracked by that.”

“What we can’t do is be in a situation where we’re coming in and having the same conversations every week and going ‘you’ve played really well today, dominated the game but we’ve lost two one' because otherwise, you won’t be talking to me in a few weeks time.”
