New boss Ian Holloway has stated that he wants to teach his new Swindon side to play with style.
Having started the role officially on Monday, the former Blackpool manager is already putting foundations in place for how he wants his side to play and set up.
Having managed in the top-flight with the Seasiders and Crystal Palace, he has experience at the highest level and wants to replicate what he’s managed onto his new team.
“I know the style that Swindon have had in the past and the good times that they had particularly under Glenn Hoddle, he beat us twice when I was playing for QPR.
“Even when you get relegated, you play with a style, and I think that’s really important these days – it’s not just winning, it’s about how you win.
“In our own way and my way, I want to teach boys how to play at the top flight level.
“It won’t necessarily be farting around with it at the back all of the time, that isn’t what the top teams do I don’t think.”
Holloway takes over the Robins in 22nd place, with the former EFL Cup winners being in a relegation battle and could become the second ever Premier League team to drop out of the football league.
The 61-year-old manager wants to reflect his knowledge and confidence onto Town with the aim of making them into a new team.
“What we’ve gotta do is be competitive, brave, and always keep wanting the ball even if it goes wrong.
“I know I can help people with that sort of confidence at my stage of life, I’m only 61, I’ve got a lot more to offer and I’ve got an awful load of experience at all four levels of English football, and I’ve managed at all four levels.
“I don’t think there’s too many of us [who have experience] and really, it’s just about me getting on the grass again, I have to say that on a personal note I’ve missed putting the kit on, dealing with something, and let me tell you in this day and age it’s absolutely brilliant, it’s a such a wonderful help.
“They can be in looking at the opponents and I can be out there schooling some hungry young footballers who want to wear this shirt with pride and die for the badge, that’ll do me, that’s not a bad start is it.”
