After two 2-1 cup victories over the course of the last week, Milton Keynes Dons are the next challenge for Swindon Town.
Ian Holloway has a “fully fit, raring to go group” ahead of Saturday’s trip to Buckinghamshire and many players will be in the frame making their case to why they should be in the squad.
So, how could Town set up?
Formation: 3-4-3
This setup is the same as the win against Colchester and I think the manager will stick with it despite going to a four back against Tottenham Hotspur U21s. Three in defence will match MK and could give the Robins the best chance of keeping their attack quiet.
Goalkeeper: Jack Bycroft
Daniel Barden made his first appearance under the new boss on Tuesday and made a crucial save to keep Town in the game. However, it probably won’t be enough and Bycroft seems to have reclaimed his number one spot.
Defence: Will Wright, Harrison Minturn, Miguel Freckleton
With no Grant Hall, I think it will be an unchanged back three from the Colchester United win. Wright and Minturn were great on that Saturday and the reason I think Freckleton will find his way into the starting team is because Holloway’s stance at Tunmise Sobowale at centre-half is not clear.
Wingbacks: George Cox and Tunmise Sobowale
Rosaire Longelo is a doubt after coming off with ten minutes to go on Tuesday with cramp, so that rules him out of playing from the get-go. He played most of the Tottenham game which probably meant that he wouldn’t be starting at Stadium MK anyway, so Cox should start. The right wingback spot is very difficult to call but I think Sobowale will keep his place. I was surprised to see Joel McGregor dropped in the FA Cup tie but especially as he came on for Jeff King with 20 minutes to go a few days back. On the other hand, Sobowale was an unused sub which gives me the idea of Ollie's choice at wingback.
Midfield: Ollie Clarke and Gavin Kilkenny
The Nigel Eady County Ground witnessed the old Clarke on Saturday and it was great to watch. Kilkenny also did well and the duo were so hardworking, brilliant and determined in the middle - so why change it?
Forwards: Harry Smith, Kabongo Tshimanga, Sean McGurk
Smith is an easy pick as he is the most in-form striker Swindon have at the moment. Tshimanga scored on the weekend and brought a lot of energy so he should start, but the next spot is up for grabs. Despite playing the whole game on Tuesday, McGurk is my prediction. The former Crystal Palace manager seems to adore the ability the forward brings and with a goal and an assist in the last game, he’s hard to ignore.
