Danny Butterworth’s fabulous individual effort earned Swindon Town a 2-2 draw on the road at Accrington Stanley in League Two.

Harry Smith headed home his fifth goal in as many league matches before Sonny Aljofree and Farrend Rawson had Town on the back foot, but Butterworth weaved through defenders to snatch a point.

So, how did the players fare as individuals as The Wham Stadium?

GK: Jack Bycroft – 6

I have seen the discourse and I simply don’t get it. He has no chance with either goal as slack marking let him down and he kept making up for struggles in building out. And yet somehow it was still Bycroft’s fault. Go figure.

RCB: Harrison Minturn – 6

Physically Minturn probably stood up the best when things were not going well and carried the ball out from the back well. He made one fantastic challenge to prevent a big chance, although the defensive organisation in general was a bit all over the place.

CB: Will Wright – 4

This was an uncharacteristically sloppy display from Wright. Runners seemed to be able to get in behind and cause him trouble more than has previously been the case.

LCB: Ryan Delaney – 4

You could hear Delaney organising, which, as noted afterwards, was an issue with the team as a whole and so that is a positive. However, he seemed to struggle at times as Swindon cratered in the first half and much of the second.

RWB: Joel McGregor – 6

I think Billy Crellin was the only one who thought he could get to that cross as McGregor put it in the perfect place for Smith. His work rate is always very impressive and he never let adversity affect him.

CM: Joel Cotterill – 3

Being part of a midfield two in a transitional game did not suit Cotterill. He struggled to get on the ball as much as he would have wanted and prevent runners from getting through.

CM: Nnamdi Ofoborh – 4

Ollie Clarke has really stepped up in this role in recent weeks and Ofoborh was not really able to fill his boots. A lot was put on him defensively, especially towards the end and it was a tough game for him.

LWB: Danny Butterworth – 8

This is almost all for the quality of the goal. I can’t remember Swindon scoring a goal like that before and it is my favourite type of goal. It was just special.

RW: Sean McGurk – 4

For the first 15 minutes, McGurk was able to find some space and make things happen but the game turned on Smith’s goal and he stopped being able to impact it.

ST: Harry Smith – 7

You have to feel for Smith scoring in five consecutive league matches and none of them were wins. He is doing everything you want him to do, winning headers and getting on the end of balls into the box.

LW: Paul Glatzel – 5

Again there were flashes from Glatzel, like his slide-rule pass into the box to set up Smith and his backheel for Butterworth’s goal. However, he has got to score at least one of those headers.

Substitutes:

George Cox – 4

He had one or two long throws after coming on but overall he failed to make much of an impact and struggled as Accrington pressed high in the first section of the second half.

Kabongo Tshimanga – 3

Tshimanga came on and held the ball up a few times but ultimately didn’t get involved often enough as Town chased the winner towards the end.

Aaron Drinan – 5

His energy helped and he got into a few decent positions down the side but he is still not looking threatening enough where it counts.

Gavin Kilkenny – 7

I was bemused to see Kilkenny left out and he showed why when he came on. He was a terrier in midfield and got Swindon driving into dangerous areas to try and nick an unlikely win.
