Ian Holloway said that he might need more help in January than he first thought to turn around the fortunes of Swindon Town.

17 games into the season, Swindon are joint-bottom of the League Two table, outside the relegation zone on goal difference, and four points behind Tranmere Rovers in 21st.

Holloway is winless in his first three league matches in charge as he has attempted to change the mood at The Nigel Eady County Ground and get the players to buy into his style of play.

Heading into January, Swindon are without their Head of Football after Jamie Russell departed, leaving the recruitment in a state of flux.

With January just over a month away, Holloway said that he might need to be more active than he first thought if performances continued in their current manner.

He said: “When January comes, I might have to get other people in to help them be slightly better at it because our unit isn’t working at the moment.

“[What do you think you will need in January?] That is a question for January because in the meantime I have to use absolutely everybody that I have got to see their strengths, work on their strengths, polish their weaknesses, and make them believe that they are good enough.

“But if they keep showing me that then I might need more than I thought.

“It is how they come back on Monday, how they are as a group, and what they say to each other and that is the secret to everything.

“Are they a group? Do they want to win? Where are we going? What are you saying? What are you going to say about that? Are you allowing that to happen?

“All of these little bits and pieces, with all the years I have had in the game I am glad to have all of that experience at the minute.”

Holloway said that all he could do for now was to try and correct the mistakes the team were making to try and get them to January in a better state.

He said: “My backline should have been 15 yards into their half where their goalie can’t kick it, so we should have pinned them in every time.

“Why didn’t we do it? I am shouting it, get up there because you should be winning that header and we could have pinned them totally in.

“Life is about momentum and you have to get it going and it has been really difficult to dig them out of this hole and if they keep doing that then it will be even more difficult.

“We have got to change that completely and utterly to turn this around on its head and do I believe they can do it? Yes, I do.

“I have picked them up and when I look at the bits back, we will show them what they got wrong and we will go out and practice it again because that is all you are going to do.”
