Marcus Bignot has said that Swindon Town's tie against Colchester United is a great opportunity to pick up must-needed points.

The Robins come into the game after an exhausting penalty loss against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup and have the opportunity to escape the relegation zone if they can pick up a point in Essex.

He said: “Obviously, we’re in a position we don’t want to be in.

"Where we are at this moment in time, I think everyone's immediate goal is to clearly not be in the position we are in now.

"We just have to make sure this wonderful football club is not in this position as we stand in at the moment, come the end of the season.

“I don’t think anybody envisaged seeing us in this position and likewise, Colchester - they’ll be disappointed to see themselves in the situation they are currently in, but a win on Tuesday evening and you bridge that gap to two points.

“I think every game for us is an opportunity and we’ve got to grab it.”

Bignot believes the side can take the positives from Accrington and build on that performance ahead of the tie against Danny Cowley’s U’s.

Ian Holloway was pleased with the performance in Lancashire and his team will be looking to climb the table with a result.

“There was a lot of encouraging signs from Saturday’s cup tie, I know for the manager [Holloway] that performance was the most pleasing it has been since he’s been here.

“It’s taking the positives from that and making sure we continue that and we get a consistent level of performance, which is needed.”

With fatigue coming into question after 120 minutes of football on Saturday, the management team may be forced into rotating the squad.

The assistant manager isn't delighted with possibly having to rotate, but understands the situation.

“You would like to have that in terms of rotation and have that depth and that quality in the rotation.

“I think for now, it’s trying to get that consistency within the group and sometimes that can be prolonged if it’s change after change.

“Where we are at the moment, we don’t want too much change but we understand players are coming off the back of a game that went to extra time.

“In an ideal world, you want players who are robust, who can go Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday and have that type of profile of physicality in a player.

“You want players who are durable, mentally strong professionals.”
