Dan Dicks was unquestionably the hero of the week in the North Wilts League.

Days after attending the funeral of his mum Nicky, Dicks bravely captained Greenmeadow A to a thrilling 4-3 victory against Wootton Bassett, scoring twice - including a spectacular winning goal Black arm bands were worn and a minute’s applause in respect of Nicky, 41, proceeded the top-of-the-table Under 14 Division One game.

The match started with a 25-yard wonder strike from Greenmeadow’s Connor Waldon, with Jack Allen making the score 2-0.

Bassett pulled one back before Dicks took centre stage to make it 3-1.

Slack defending of a free-kick saw Bassett net again only for Dicks to find the net with a long-range free-kick.

Plucky Bassett pulled another back but Dick’s goal was enough to earn three points.

Under 16 Division Two Wootton Bassett B maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a solid 4-0 victory over third-placed Stratton Youth in a match which was a credit to both clubs. Bassett led 2-0 at half time, courtesy of two Danny Hale strikes and added two more in the second half through a spectacular Robbie Ali effort and Tom Glass. Stratton were denied a consolation goal by a great penalty save from keeper Dave Groom.

Shaw went ahead against Fairford Town Youth with a thumping header from Luke Giles and made it 2-0 with a fine solo effort from Aiden Bennett.

Shaw continued to dominate the game and made it 3-0 with a fine goal from Aaron Webb. Bennett then secured the three points for Shaw, scoring two more to complete a well deserved hat-trick and the game finished 5-0.

Under 15 Division one Chippenham’s Matt Coote scored the only goal of the first half against Stratton Juniors.

But the floodgates opened in the second as Dan Heavey (2), Jamie Walker (2) and Coote made it 6-0.

Penhill Allstars took a first-half lead against Croft Juniors A through Lewis Chubb. Croft hit back with two goals from Robbie Lincoln, before Croft’s keeper Alex Swatridge pulled off a fantastic save from a Scott Townsend header, but he could not prevent Brad Ray salvaging a share of the points as the match finished 2-2.

Under 14 Division two On Wednesday night a hat-trick from Callum Parker, two apiece for Jack Peare and Joe Hilliard, and an own goal at each end, saw Cricklade win against a battling Wanborough side 10-1. After a hard-fought game, Greenmeadow B came out on top to beat Coleshill 5-2. Scorers for Greenmeadow were Jack Townsend (2), Karl Lewington, Lee Toomey and Tom Swindall.

There was good end-to-end football in the match between Fairford Youth and Highworth Town Juniors T, with Highworth leading 3-1 at the break. A hat-trick by Bryce Clarke and goals from Jonny Light and Tariq Stone saw Fairford to the resulting 5-5 draw.

Under 13 Division one FC Abbeymeads earned all three points against Stratton Juniors B in a close game. Abbeymeads were two goals ahead at half time through Jay Kilbane and Juris French. A spirited fight from Stratton saw them reduce the deficit after a superb free-kick from Danny Gruber, but Abbey Meads held on for a 2-1 victory.

Eldene Rangers took an early lead against Old Town but after mistakes by Eldene it was Old Town who went in 3-2 up at half time. Eldene got back into the game and managed to turn it around taking the score to 4-3, before letting Old Town get back into the game and then score a last-minute winner to win 5-4. The Eldene scorers were Mabick Thapa, Charlie Pugh (2) and Jack Scarrott.

Under 13 Division Three Wanborough beat Croft Juniors 2-0 in a close game with goals from Bradley Mitchell and Alex Mitchell.

Under 12 Division two A strong performance from Fairford saw them win 4-0 against Highworth Town Juniors H.

An unlucky own goal by Highworth and goals from Luke Street and Zeb Waite in the first half and a late strike from Liam Risby in the second saw Fairford claim their first points of the new season.

Under 12 Division three In an exciting and close game, Old Town worked hard to come from behind three times against Wanborough, running out 4-3 winners, with goals from Tyler Wardale (2), Scott Brown, and Donal Mann. The Wanborough scorers were Liam Connolly-Maull, Miles Frost and Liam Hobbs.

Under 11 west Division There was an enthralling match between Wanborough and Lydiard Youth B. Wanborough eventually edged the match 3-2 to maintain their position at the top of the league. Wanborough took the lead through Taylor Smague only for Fraser Ridley to get a goal back. Jacob Makin then put Wanborough ahead again before Jack Rabey floated a corner into the net to put Lydiard level at half time. The tension continued in the second half, but it looked as if the half-time score of 2-2 would stand until Wanborough won the game in the dying minutes with a Luke Gay strike.

Under 11 North Division In the match between Lydiard Youth A and Cirencester Town, Dean Griffin scored first for Lydiard but the team failed to convert several further chances. Cirencester scored a breakaway goal to equalise and the game finished 1-1.

Swindon Rangers maintained their 100 per cent record, despite a hard-fought game against Highworth Town Juniors H.

Rangers were 1-0 down to a Jonathan Royal opener early in the first half and Highworth held on to this lead, despite heavy pressure from Rangers. It took until five minutes into the second half before Rangers found the equaliser, Jake Evans firing home following a great individual run.

It looked as though the points would be shared until, with 10 minutes to go, Alex Fenton got on the end of a bouncing ball in the box, to seal the three points for Rangers.

Under 11 central Division Blunsdon Colts were 2-0 down at half time against Pinehurst, but with an impressive team display they came back and won convincingly 5-2. The players on target for Blunsdon were Billy Gibbs (2), Liam Yeates, Callum Evans and Yazan Amawi.

Cricklade Youth eventually came out on top after Croft Juniors had the better of the first half. In the second half Cricklade improved with Russell Hudson and Rhys Clements impressing in midfield to wrestle the game Cricklade’s way.

Daniel Baverstock opened the scoring with a close-range shot and Miles Rust made the win safe in the last minute with a mazy run and shot into the far corner to make it 2-0. A strong first-half performance from Purton saw them lead 4-0 at the interval against Brinkworth Cats B. Cats regrouped in the second half and defended stoically. After Maxwell Luffman for Cats was brought down in the penalty area Elliot Mayo stepped up and coolly slotted home from the spot kick to make it 4-1.

Under 10 West Division Despite a great effort from Croft Juniors A, they went down 5-0 to a very strong Shaw A side in a really competitive match.

Robins were held to a 1-1 draw with this weekend by Highworth Town Juniors T.

Under 10 south Division Five goals from Louis O’Shea and one apiece for Dominic Waddell and Harry Packer saw Croft Juniors B secure victory over Brinkworth Cats. The opening goal came from the penalty spot through Ryan Collins and Brinkworth added another from Martin Sinclair but these were cancelled out by two goals from Croft in the first half. A second goal from Collins saw Brinkworth start the second half well but ultimately Croft came back with five goals to take the game 7-3.

Coleview Juniors had two games over the weekend. Saturday’s match resulted in a comfortable 9-1 win over Hungerford Town C, the goals coming from Callum Richardson (4), Sam Walker (2), Ryan Farley (2) and a single goal for Sam Lobb. Sunday’s game was much harder against a tough Cirencester Town G side, but Coleview eventually ran out 2-1 winners, both goals coming from Lewis Wray.

Under 10 North Division In a very entertaining match, Lydiard Youth took the lead after 10 minutes against Stratton Juniors A, with a great finish from Ryan Smith.

In the second half Stratton pressed for the equaliser but were denied by some excellent defending and goalkeeping by Edward Thorne until the final minutes when Stratton equalised with a shot that went in off both posts. Lydiard rallied and with virtually the last kick of the game Ryan Butler scored the winner from a free-kick.

Under 10 Central Division Penhill Knights notched up their second league win with a 5-2 victory over Pewsham Youth. On the score sheet for Penhill were Keelan Boyce and Kye Sheill with one apiece and Aaron Rowland with three.

The first half of the match between Ashton Keynes and Ferndale Rodbourne B had Ashton Keynes dominating early possession and taking a deserved lead midway through.

Ferndale hit back quickly with a solid strike by Joshua Iles to level it. The Ferndale left-back, Ryan Woodward, then scored from his own half to give Ferndale a 2-1 lead at half time. Ferndale went into overdrive in the second half as Glen Walker, Iles, Daniel Raymen and Andrew Hunt netted, before Declan Harris scored from a long-range strike and within the area to make the final score 8-1 to Ferndale.

Shaw A ran up their first win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Croft Juniors, with Connor Adams scoring all five.

Under 9 west Division Elite Soccer Coaching started off well against Highworth Town Juniors F. Elite controlled the game from the beginning with lots of attacking football, scoring four goals without reply, until Highworth were awarded two penalties, converted by Guy Drayton.

Top scorer was Ashley Prim got four goals for Elite, Josh Burnett and Euan Hutcheson scoring one each and an own goal by Highworth as Elite took their tally to seven.

Wootton Bassett Town A made it three wins out of three with a 5-1 away victory over Shrivenham & Watchfield. Bassett led 5-0 with a couple of goals apiece from Tyler Fitchett and Euan Burke and a goal from captain Lewis Ward before Shrivenham finished the scoring with a deserved late goal.

A strong performance from Lydiard Youth A saw them run out 6-1 winners against a battling Wroughton side. Thomas Miller and Oliver Rejek scored two apiece, with the other Lydiard goals from Ewan Wykeham-Martin and a cracking goal from Tom Wells.

Under 9 South Division Ferndale Rodbourne B made it three wins out of three with a 6-0 win against Croft Juniors B, including four goals from Harry Kearns and one from Ryan Gregory.

A great display of football by Lydiard Youth against Stratton Juniors, with all of the goals created by some exceptional team work and passing. The goals were scored by Charlie Emmerson (3), Sam Murby (3), Lachlan Beggs and Daniel Hulse.

Under 9 north Division Coleview Juniors’ good form continued with a stellar team performance against Old Town. A first-half brace from Aaron Smith and a single response from Old Town, who kept up their attacking football going into the break. The second half saw a confident Coleview come out and run in another four goals, from Aaron Smith (2), Jamie Byrom and captain Luke Weeks.

Both Croft Juniors and Liden Community battled really hard from the start with some great passing and moving. It was Liden who managed to take the lead just before half time, through Jayden Handel after some great support play by Lewis Cholod and that’s how it finished.

Under 9 Central Division Swindon Rangers went goal crazy against Ramsbury. Hat-tricks by Joe Tyson and Zachary Bunce along with two goals each by Leon Morrison, Toby Kutassy and Luke Haines, and Joe Fenton getting on the score sheet ensured Swindon Rangers ran out comfortable 13-0 winners.

Shaw come away with a three-goal win against Pewsey Vale, with Jordan Clark scoring twice in the first half and Jark Large scoring with a header in the second half.

Highworth Town Juniors H had a great 5-0 win at Lambourn Sports, with the goals coming from Adam Robbins (2), Joe Marshall, Mason Garland and an own goal.
