TOWN manager Danny Wilson believes Sean Morrison is the “future of the club”, as the teenage defender gets set to sign a long-term deal at the County Ground.
Youth team graduate Morrison established himself in the Town line-up earlier this season as a 17-year-old, and impressed everyone with a series of mature displays that belied his tender years.
He attracted the attention of a number of Premier League and Championship clubs but, out of contract in the summer, he will put pen to paper on a new Swindon deal within the next fortnight.
“I don’t think he’s actually signed it, but he’s ready to. It’s all been agreed,” revealed Wilson.
“It’s fantastic news because the kid is a great prospect.
“For a boy so young, he’s got great attributes and experience already in the first team.
“I’m delighted with it - I’m very excited about the future with players like Sean around, because players like that are the future of the club.
“We’re doing it because we want to have a good squad of players who can take us forward, looking further than one or two seasons.
“It’s good news for us and for him. He’s still learning his trade and has a long way to go, but we feel he’s got great potential.”
Loanees Gordon Greer (groin) and Hal Robson-Kanu (hamstring) are both rated 50-50 for tomorrow’s clash with Scunthorpe after picking up knocks at Millwall in midweek.
The pair didn’t train yesterday, but Wilson is confident neither will be out long-term.
“It’s not as good as we thought it might have been at the time, so it may be that they miss Saturday’s game,” he admitted. “But we’ll give them as long as possible.
“If they don’t make it for Saturday they will be available on Tuesday, I’m almost certain of that.
“It’s a bit of a blow, but it’s a lot easier for a player come into a side which is full of confidence rather than one that’s taking a bit of a pasting.”
- Town officials are inviting supporters to assist in the club’s 2009/10 season ticket initiative.
The club will be holding a season ticket forum at the County Ground next Wednesday (February 25).
Chief executive Nick Watkins and director Jeremy Wray will be joined by box office manager Brian Powell - with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm start in the Legends Lounge.
Fans are asked to come along and suggest ideas with the club currently planning next season’s ticket pricing structure.
Three-hundred complimentary tickets for the evening are available for supporters at the STFC box office.
