TOWN boss Iffy Onuora will start surgery' on his squad today as he looks to shape a side with a more than healthy chance of instant promotion from League Two, writes JON RITSON.

The manager was due to meet each member of the first team group as well as the club's final year scholars for a one-to-one chat.

It will be the end of the road for some senior faces although there looks to be a strong possibility that contracts will be offered to numerous members of the youth set-up.

Onuora is clear what he needs to do and his summer recruitment drive will seek to add greater experience to the Town squad and certainly some extra firepower.

Onuora said: "I'm fully aware of what we need.

"We may need a little bit more experience and the thing I may have to address is that physical presence a little bit more.

"I'm mindful that we're quite a young back four and we're going into a division that we don't know loads about at this moment in time.

"So we might need someone who's been at that level before.

"Depending on who stays and who goes we might need two defenders.

"We have the youngsters who've come through but we need ones who've been there, seen it, done it a little bit and are a bit more battle hardened than perhaps we've been at times this year.

"Obviously there is the goalkeeping situation, we might need one, maybe two?

"And of course there's that cutting edge which we didn't quite have against Huddersfield and maybe we've lacked a little bit all season.

"The goals for' tally isn't great so I'm aware of that. So there's a little bit of surgery to do.

"I've pretty much known in my own mind over the last few weeks, who I want to keep and who to let go.

"I've also known for the last couple of weeks the kind of players I wanted to take us forward.

"Unfortunately, one or two of those I don't think we can get because we have been relegated.

"Maybe it's one step back to take two forward. Stability is the key. As long as we're given the chance to build something, we'll get there."

Despite continuing rumours linking Ian Holloway with Town, especially in the light of Bill Power's imminent arrival, the new director said in Saturday's club programme that he (Onuora) should be be given the chance to finish what he's started'.
