PREMIER Division Westside, needing just a point to ensure runners-up spot, got over a nervy start to beat visitors Bromham 7-2 to finish second behind champions Corsham Town.

The game was just one of a handful of remaining matches that brought the curtain down on a successful season for the Wiltshire League.

Westside found themselves a goal down early in the game but recovered well to win quite easily in the end to finish off a highly successful campaign for the club.

Manager Joe O'Rourke was delighted with his side's performance in their first season in senior football, saying: "Had anyone said we would have finished runners-up at the start of the season I would most certainly have settled for that.

"The lads have played with great consistency all the season and have worked very hard.

"It has been a great achievement by the club."

In other matches Aldbourne were beaten 5-1 at Calne to finish just below halfway.

Tony Dyer's side were up among the leaders for the first part of the season but fell away in the last few months, due to injuries and players moving on to a higher grade.

Devizes Town gained a 3-1 away victory over Melksham to finish the season on a good run after a poor first half of the season.

Down Ampney, who looked likely winners of the section at one time, fell behind with their fixtures and had to play two days running with mixed results.

After a 5-2 win at Melksham they travelled to Shrewton and found the home side in a goal-hungry mood and were beaten 11-1.

League champions Corsham were held to a goalless draw by lowly Pewsey Vale in their last match of the season.

Warminster Town finished in third spot after looking favourites to lift the title at one stage.

They fell behind in their fixtures due to a good run in the Wilts Senior Cup and never really recovered.

Purton Reserves, despite some gallant efforts towards the end of the season finished at the bottom of the table with Malmesbury Vics a place above.

Junior Division One champions Wroughton pulled off a fantastic treble, winning both the Wilts Junior Cup and the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup.

Chiseldon Castrol, winners of Junior Division Two had a record-breaking season, going all 24 games without defeat.
