IFFY Onuora will lay his route back to League One before Town's board later this week and has no reason to believe he won't be allowed the chance to steer a successful course at the helm.

The manager read in at least one national newspaper yesterday that he feared for his job' but if he is nervous then there's no visible sign of it.

Onuora spent the day speaking to every member of his first team and youth set up before heading north for a League Managers Association function.

Notable developments included the departure of Stefani Miglioranzi after four seasons at the club, the offer of a professional contract to 17-year-old striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, and a managerial request that Rhys Evans and Sean O'Hanlon make a decision on their respective futures by the end of this week.

Detailed plans were also put in place for pre-season and that could include the recruitment of an Olympian to assist on the fitness front.

Onuora now has to discuss his plans with Mark Devlin, Bill Power and company.

He said: "I'm speaking to them later this week. With what I've recommended I think they're quite happy for me to make my own judgements on that.

"I read in one paper that I feared for my job'. I'm doing all this with a view to next year and until someone tells me different and they haven't then I'm not too concerned in that respect."

As well as new players, a sports scientist is being sought and there should be no excuses on the fitness front.

Onuora is good friends with Katherine Merry, who took the 400m bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

The Town boss said: "Katherine might come in and do a bit of fitness work. I've had a chat with her at the club.

"It's all so we can hit the ground running in August. We've been setting out pre-season almost to the day."

Deputy chairman Mark Devlin has confirmed a meeting is expected to take place this week, although a specific time and date has yet to be confirmed.

He said: "We're looking forward to sitting down with Iffy and hearing how he sees the route out of League One. We have to discuss his targets, finances and the like but it will obviously be a two-way discussion."

Goalkeeper Evans is impressed by Onuora's plan having listened to his manager's vision yesterday.

Evans said: "He's told me what he wants to do for next season and from what he's said, I would support it 100 per cent."

Supporting is one thing but signing up to it, quite another.

He said: "It's hard because I'd love to be part of something successful and go up through the leagues with the team.

"The manager has a time frame on it (a decision) which isn't as much as I'd like it to be but I understand his reasons.

"It's a case of meeting in the middle maybe?"
