SUPERMARINE: boss Mark Collier has refused to rule out an interest in the vacant managerial post at Cirencester Town while his predecessor has stated he would love the chance'.
In the wake of Brian Hughes' resignation, Collier has emerged as a favourite for the post but, while he is remaining silent on his future, another manager is desperate for a return to the big time.
Tommy Saunders lasted just 55 days as Supermarine boss two years ago but, having previously led Chippenham Town to back-to-back promotions into the Southern League, he believes he does have the credentials.
After four years with the Centurions Hughes said it was just time for him to move on and insisted any conspiracy theories should be put to bed.
Former Glocuester City assistant manager Chris Smith is also being touted as a possible contender but Saunders is the first to admit an interest.
While Collier, who has just led Marine to the Southern League first division play-offs, merely commented, "I have a job at the moment, but you never say never," Saunders was far more forthcoming.
The now Odd-Down boss said: "I am only managing in the Toolstation League as a favour to my father-in-law.
"Odd Down are never going to win anything and I would love the chance to return to the Southern League level.
"I have shown I can do the job during my time at Chippenham and if they are looking for someone then I would definitely be interested.
"The problem is in situations like this clubs normally have a replacement lined up already. We will see what happens though. They have a nice new ground and look a decent club."
Cirencester Town chairman Steve Abbley said: "Brian has done a fantastic job for Cirencester during his four years as manager.
"He has created many happy memories at the club and he will be missed.
"The new manager will join a club committed to the Community Club concept with an emphasis on developing players."
Abbley is looking for applications for the vacant post.
