SEAN O'Hanlon says he would be a fool' to pen a deal without weighing up all his options but remains committed to a speedy career decision.
The Town skipper is mulling over a two-year County Ground contract and has yet to open negotiations with any other interested parties not that he has been approached by other clubs as yet.
He says ambition rather than finances will play a major part in what he decides to do.
However, that doesn't mean that he refuses to contemplate playing his football in League Two next year.
O'Hanlon is impressed by Iffy Onuora's vision for the future and feels he will be part of his promotion-challenging side if he decides to remain in Wiltshire.
He said: "I have no problems staying at Swindon if that is what I decide is the best option.
"But I think any professional footballer has ambitions and wants to test himself at the highest possible level.
"It's still early doors though with a lot of managers still focusing on play-off situations and the like.
"This (being out of contract) is all new to me and it's another part of the learning curve I suppose.
"I have been offered a deal at Swindon, the manager wants a decision and I understand that. I've already said I don't want things to drag on either.
"He's told me when he's going on holiday and I'd like to think that things will be sorted by then but I think I'd be a fool to sign straight away.
"Obviously, it was Swindon's choice to offer the contract six weeks ago or so. Nothing was said last summer."
Manager Iffy Onuora has asked both O'Hanlon and goalkeeper Rhys Evans for decisions by the end of the week. He hasn't changed his timescale and nor is he likely to.
"I've made my position clear on that situation and I'm sure both lads are thinking things over," said Onuora.
Meanwhile, the manager confirmed it is likely to be Monday at the earliest before he sits down with Mark Devlin, Bill Power and the board to discuss pre-season requirements and the forthcoming campaign.
