JUSTIN Miller has vowed to help Highworth silence the mockers after returning to the Elms for his fourth spell at the club, writes ANDY CRYER.
The mercurial striker started at Highworth when he was just a starry-eyed youngster and now 10 years and hundreds of goals on he has returned to his roots, again.
Miller, 29, only ended his last stint at the club last summer when, after helping Highworth to the Hellenic League Premier Division title, he shot Oxford City to a league and cup double, via North Leigh.
Miller's old teammates have not enjoyed such a memorable campaign and boss John Fisher is hoping his big money return will bring about a change in fortunes.
Languishing at the wrong end of the table for much of the season, Fisher's charges became a laughing stock after a 7-1 hammering on the final day and Miller admits he is hoping for much better come August.
He said: "I have not come here just for a bit of fun. We had a great season when we won the title and I have to admit I am very surprised about their performances this season.
"I will be aiming for a top four finish at least and I don't believe that is being to ambitious.
"It was not an easy decision to make because it would have been nice to have made the step-up to the Southern League with Oxford City but with all the commitments I have at the moment, the travelling was going to be too much."
Highworth beat a host of teams to Miller's signature, including Premier Division champions Didcot, with the talisman revealing his love for the club.
Miller, 29, said: "I have always enjoyed myself at Highworth. The people are great and I am looking forward to playing there again. All things considered once I had decided to leave Oxford, the rest was not a hard decision."
Fisher is relieved having finally secured Miller on a year's contract admitting he is hoping to build a championship winning team around him next season.
He said: "Mutley (Miller) was the one we wanted. You never know with him and so until he signed on the dotted line we were not sure we had got him.
"Now we have got Miller we can look to build a side around him. We all know what he can do and he will prove a very popular signing with our supporters."
- A relieved John Fisher has escaped a touch line ban after a scuffle against Bishops Cleeve got out of hand.
The club was fined £350 for his part in the melee but he escaped any individual action due to not being sent off.
Fisher, who now has a £100 suspended fine hanging over his head, admitted it could have been worse.
Bishops Cleeve were fined £200.
