BILL Power's official unveiling' may have been delayed but the club's newest director is confident a sound route to recovery is now set in stone including the small matter of a £900,000 CVA payment.

A high profile court case surrounding events at Queens Park Rangers means Power could not attend tonight's scheduled fans' forum and that event has now been postponed as a result.

It also means a meeting with his fellow directors and Iffy Onuora to discuss the future is unlikely to take place until Thursday or Friday at the earliest.

Yesterday was supposed to be the 52-year-old's official start as a Town director, not that he has been twiddling his thumbs since his arrival was first announced.

He is gutted that he was unable to make the forum as it would have been an early opportunity to speak to the fans and thank them for their welcome'.

Power has already started his promised visit to Town's various internet messageboards and is encouraged by the comments he is reading.

He said: "I know there will be some who are always going to ask what this QPR fan's secret plan' is?

"But most of the comments and the reaction I had when I came to the last game of the season have been incredibly positive."

So once legal matters at his former club are resolved, Power will be getting his teeth into his new project, with his time probably as important as his money.

However, he accepts that the money, including an initial £1 million investment, will be a focus for supporters.

He has reiterated that it won't be a case of throwing money at the club and that his wallet won't be the only one being raided.

However, there is some good news for supporters concerned about the club's unwanted appearances on the front pages for all the wrong reasons over the last five to 10 years.

Phrases such as administration', CVA' and winding up orders' have appeared all too often.

Power said: "The Creditors Voluntary Agreement was one of the main things I was made aware of when we got talking about my getting on board (Town must find around £900,000 in 12 months time to meet the terms of their CVA).

"We do have the finances and we are putting things in place for the future."

Power accepts that even when good' news is forthcoming, supporters can still be inclined to expect their smile to be greeted by a kick in the teeth.

Power said: "I'm not aware of anything lurking in the background and if it is, then it's well hidden in a deep, dark cave that I don't knkow about."

  • It is hoped the Swindon Town Fans Forum will now take place within the next fortnight.
