CHARLIE Comyn-Platt has hit out at Swindon Town's treatment of Iffy Onuora, claiming staving off relegation was mission impossible almost from day one.

The tough-tackling midfielder admits he was expecting Onuora to still be his boss come the start of next season but believes the mess of the Andy King era always spelt disaster.

Onuora replaced King at the end of September with Town struggling towards the bottom of League One, and on the back of five straight defeats, and as far as Comyn-Platt is concerned Onuora was always up against it.

He said: "It has come like a bolt out of the blue. One moment I was discussing contracts with him and then the next I read he is leaving the club.

"The damage was already done here when Andy King was in charge. Iffy has done nothing wrong, he had so much to do because Andy King had already cocked it up.

"At one stage it looked like he was working that miracle by lifting us out of the relegation zone but in the end missed chances and key mistakes proved costly."

While questioning the wisdom of letting Onuora go after less than one season at the helm, Comyn-Platt made it clear he had nothing against his potential successors.

Former Chelsea midfielders Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet look set to be named as replacements on Monday and, with their pedigree, Comyn-Platt believes exciting times could be ahead.

He said: "They were both great midfielders weren't they? They were different players with Gus good in the air and very skillful whereas Wise loved a tackle.

"I would to like to think I am a similar player to Dennis Wise and I am sure playing under him would improve my game.

"He could also add a bit to our midfield if he decided to play as well as manage."
