DENNIS Wise has never shirked a challenge in his life and has issued a rallying cry to the Town faithful to help him have a real go'.
As he starts life as a League Two manager, the 39-year-old says success will only be forthcoming as a united unit.
That means directors, management, players and supporters.
Wise, pictured, and Poyet, who will both register as players for the forthcoming campaign, are relishing the opportunity that lies before them - on and off the pitch.
The former Millwall manager said: "In life you have challenges and this is a big challenge.
"I had a chance to play at Coventry City for another year.
"That was the easy option wasn't it?
"I'll give it my best shot. Every time I've done that I have done okay.
"As for targets, I don't want to go into that.
"All I can say is that we'll have a real go. We haven't come here just to sit where we are in this division.
"We've come here to achieve something. By achieving something we have to get out of this division.
"We will be a group together. We will fail together or succeed together.
"Gus and I are going to be registered as players so if need be we might have to slip the boots on.
"Hopefully the lads will keep us out."
Wise and Poyet already have targets in mind to help efforts on the pitch but the former insists those in the stands have a crucial part to play.
He said: "The message to the fans is come and support us. We need the fans to get behind us.
"We know exactly what we're doing but we need the supporters to help us. What we want is this place to have a buzz about it."
Wise spent the bulk of his playing career at the highest level but he accepts that simply buying' promotion is not an option.
It will be a question of using his many contacts in the game and indulging in a spot of wheeling and dealing'. Nor will he be afraid to seek advice from time to time.
He said: "We haven't got loads of money to spend.
"We've already earmarked a couple of people that we think could maybe strengthen our squad. It won't happen overnight.
"We have to suss out which we feel are the right players to make this club succeed."
As for outside help, Wise confirmed that his former manager at Wimbledon, Dave Bassett had offered his support should it be required.
He said: "I spoke to Dave and he said that if I needed any help then he was willing to provide that."
Meanwhile, Adver readers have given their backing to the new man, 86 per cent answering Yes' to our question: Is Dennis Wise the right choice to lead the club in League Two next year?
