BILL POWER believes the appointment of Dennis Wise sends out the message that Swindon Town is a club to embrace rather than recoil from not that he ever expected to land the new boss!

The club's newest director has played a significant part in landing the new management team of Wise and Gus Poyet.

Power also feels Wise's appointment can only aid the club's bid to assemble a stronger squad.

The former Queens Park Rangers supremo said: "To think that only last Sunday Mark (Devlin) and myself were having were having a coffee discussing that if we were to make changes, who we'd like to bring in.

"Dennis was top of the list but we didn't believe for a second that he would dive in with us.

"I know Dennis' father and used to play football with him when we were kids.

"Knowing Dennis and knowing what he wants to do with his life, I said to Mark that we had to give it a try. We asked and we got.

"Hopefully it will give everyone in Swindon an idea of what we want to do for the club.

"From the moment we started talking, he's been very positive.

"He already has plans and he's under no illusions about it's going to be easy.

"He's already spoken to people, Colin Calderwood at Northampton, Dave Bassett as well, just to make sure he's getting the right advice.

"He's very knowledgeable already but doesn't believe he knows it all yet.

"The budgets are there, the financial pressure's off him, really concentrate on the team and do your best.

"I'm quite certain he'll do better."

Power said Wise's appointment is already having positive knock-on effects.

He said: "This was very much part of the process to make sure everyone understood that this is not a club on our uppers.

"We are looking forward very positively and that with a high profile name like Dennis coming along, it immediately opens up the possibility of better players coming to the club.

"I've been inundated with with phone calls from people in football saying are you interested in this lad? He could do a job for you'.

"That's totally down to Dennis."

So can Town fans expect the cash to be splashed?

Power said: "If we can get Wayne Rooney for half a million, he's coming. Seriously, if someone's going to make that much difference then there'll be money to bring the guy in."

Power is putting his hand in his wallet and hopes the fans will be just as excited about the future as he is.

He said: "Hopefully it will make a difference in terms of bums on seats."

Power wants stability alongside success.

He said: "The chopping and changes has to stop now. We need stability."

And the director who recently invested £1 million into the club said Wise is not under pressure to succeed this season or else!

He said: "If we can get promotion next season then that would be marvellous.

"Obviously that's the goal.

"Every manager is under pressure but we're not saying to him we must be this, we must do that, we've got to that.' "I honestly don't see anything other than real progress at the club. That's not arrogance."
