SKY Sports pundit and former Swindon player Chris Kamara has hailed the appointment of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet as Town's biggest coup since landing Glenn Hoddle back in 1991.
While former boss Andy King is tipping the high-profile management duo to lead the Robins to an instant return to League One.
Kamara, who made over 250 appearances for Town in two spells between 1977 and 1988, is now football league pundit and is in no doubt the former Chelsea pair will prove an instant hit.
"It is wonderful," he said. "It has to be the biggest thing that has happened to the club since Glenn Hoddle was appointed.
"To get someone of their stature to come to the club is just an unbelievable coup. Dennis has not gone to Swindon to make up the numbers.
"I am sure he will be the first one to walk away next summer if he does not get them into the play-offs, which I am sure is the least they will manage."
With Wise and Poyet also registering themselves as players for the forthcoming League Two campaign, Kamara believes Town have got two for the price of one.
He said: "If they both get through pre-season then Town could well also have got themselves the best two midfielders in the division. They have definitely got a hungry manager who has taken one step backward to go forwards.
"He did brilliantly at Millwall, before things crumbled around him through no fault of his own, and is returning to the level of football he started in. I believe exciting times are ahead."
Meanwhile, speaking from his holiday villa in Spain, former boss King who has been linked with Conference side Grays lauded the arrival of Wise and Poyet as successors to Iffy Onuora and Alan Reeves.
King, who had two stints in charge between 2000 and 2005, said: "I think it is a magnificent appointment. I fully expect Dennis and Gus will get a bit more money thrown at them than I did and they should do very well. I know Dennis anyway, I played at his golf day on Friday, and he is great fellow. It is a very exciting appointment.
"Even when I was at the club, which was not that long ago, we had a squad capable of pushing for promotion in the division above, we showed that when we reached the play-offs.
"Unfortunately losing Sam Parkin pulled the heart out of the club. I quickly brought in Cureton and Thorpe but unfortunately neither worked out.
"If they had who knows? I might still be there, we would be in League One still and there would never have been any mention of Wise and Poyet."
In terms of his own career, King, who is holidaying in Spain, is seeking a return to the game sooner rather than later.
He said: "I am doing nothing at the moment. I am applying for jobs but there are thousands out there who are doing the same thing. It is not easy."
The Advertiser catches up with some former Town stars to get their opinion on the appointments of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet.
- Don Rogers
"All I can say is that people who come into my shop are talking about Swindon Town again and that can only be a good thing.
"He should certainly bring some of the fans back.
"I think he'll be a success too, because that's the sort of person he is.
"He has always been a winner in everything he's done in football and hopefully he'll bring that to the County Ground."
- Phil King
"It is a great move for the club.
"I was friends with Iffy Onuora and always felt his job was a very big ask and I hope the club did it all properly when he left.
"But a lot of people I have spoken to are Chelsea fans and, because Dennis Wise is such a legend, they have said they will come and watch Swindon, even though they have no connections.
"They are a big fish in a small pond in this division, with probably the best ground and a high-profile manager.
"Swindon are the only former Premiership club in this league, and there will be pressure from the fans for success."
- Alan McLoughlin
"I DID my B licence coaching badge with Gus Poyet and have played against both of them during my time as a player. I think it is a good appointment.
"They could still play a role on the field but I would like to think that would only be in emergencies.
"I think they can re-generate some much-needed excitement.
"I haven't spoken to many people who are negative about it all. Obviously how they do depends on the funds available, and how they decide to spend it, but I am sure they have players in mind.
"I read Lou Macari's comments with interest the other day because he was a legend here and if they can match his achievements they will have done very well."
- Steve White
"Swindon have a history of employing international players and generally they have gone on to do very well for them.
"Lou Macari, Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle and Steve McMahon were all top international players and Dennis Wise obviously fits the bill.
"He has a lot of contacts in the game, seems a bubbly character and it augurs well for the future.
"Hopefully the new board set-up will clear the decks with their investment and will support Dennis in the transfer market.
"He needs to be able to compete with other clubs at his level."
