Two-year deal looks set to tempt Jamie out of Town: JAMIE Cureton is mulling over a two-year contract from a club in a higher division and concedes that Old Father Time is a barrier to his joining the Dennis Wise revolution at the County Ground.

Having triggered the relegation clause in his contract which allows him to leave on a free transfer, the 30-year-old concedes that it is probably goodbye' to Swindon Town.

Not that he wouldn't want to work with the new boss, he just senses that the clock is ticking on his ambitions.

Cureton, pictured, admits the appointment of Wise and Gus Poyet has given him something to think about where the decision had looked clear-cut.

However, developments at the County Ground are ultimately unlikely to change his plans and he is adamant it is not about money.

He said: "I think getting the pair in is a major coup for the club.

"It makes the decision harder but I am very conscious of the fact that I am 30 heading towards 31.

"I'm not prepared to say who it is as nothing's signed but there is an offer from a club in a higher division, a two-year contract as well. There have been a few other phone calls as well.

"This isn't about money. I could end up somewhere on less than I'm on now.

"You only get one chance at a career in football and I want to play as high as I can for as long as I can.

"I think that's just being honest with people.

"I know I'll probably get some stick for saying that but that's how I see it.

"I'd be gutted to miss out on working with Dennis and Gus and I'm not absolutely saying it won't happen.

"But another year down the line, I'll be another year older and out of contract. I don't have time on my side.

"I really hope that promotion is achieved next season but there'd be no guarantee I'd be back in League One the following season.

"Footballers reach a crossroads at points in their career and maybe this is one for me."

Colchester United have remained admirers of Cureton since his loan spell at Layer Road last season and promotion to the Championship means Phil Parkinson will be looking to add to his squad.

Cureton was giving nothing away but of those definitely remaining at the County Ground, he feels they will only benefit.

He said: "There are a lot of young lads at the club.

"They are going to learn so much working with Dennis and Gus.

"I want things sorted within a week."

On the issue of strikers, Town have been linked with Wise's ex-teammates, Andy Morrell and veteran scorer Steve Claridge.
