PETE Horwat believes Shrivenham can look forward to an even brighter future after teaming up with his former boss Alan Dyton, writes ANDY CRYER.

Tony Garland ended a 20-year working relationship with Dyton, pictured left, when he stepped down as assistant manager but the Shrivenham boss has moved quickly to fill the void.

Horwat arrives at the Rec as joint manager with Dyton, after learning his trade in spells at New College and as assistant boss at Hungerford, and is already planning for the future.

He said: "I played under Alan when I was at Supermarine and I have nothing but respect for him. He has some great ideas and methods that I have learnt from.

"Shrivenham have done superbly over the last few years, finished eighth in the Hellenic Premier League, and were just a win away from the top six.

"The end to the season let them down so maybe we have to work on stability and concentration. I can really see us kicking on.

"We have a good squad already and will have a good chat about other additions to the squad as well."

Horwat became something of a journeyman during his playing days, with spells at Calne, Forest Green Rovers, Hungerford, Supermarine and Highworth.

Four years ago he took the reigns at New College and spent last season as assistant boss at Hellenic League Hungerford.

Horwat, 41, said: "It was not an easy decision. Obviously Alan Clarke has been appointed as manager at Hungerford now and he was keen to keep me.

"But I felt it was the right time for me to make a step up and move on. Behind the scenes Shrivenham are working hard to improve the pitch and that will help us play the football we want to play."

Dyton has revealed Horwat will hold equal responsibility for next season as his work commitments continue to take up a lot of his time.

He said: "Firstly I have to thank Alan Garland. We have worked together for 20 years and I will sadly miss having him alongside me.

"But I am delighted Pete has decided to join us. He played for me in his younger days and was always full of honesty and commitment.

"I think he has taken those attributes into management and his attitude to the way the game should be played is the same as mine so I am sure we will get on well.

"A lot of hard work has been done both on and off the pitch and things are moving in the right direction but this is just the start and a lot more hard work still needs to be done as the club remain ambitious. I will do my share but the club have to come with me."

At Shrivenham's presentation night, Mark Peters won player's player of the year, Jon Peters won the manager's award and Alex Green got the nod from the supporters.

Perrin quashes Gilroy bid Darren Perrin has rubbished rumours Bath City have made an approach for top scorer Dave Gilroy, claiming it would be a waste of time even if they did.

The Chippenham boss has just signed Weston defensive duo Steve Jenkins and Andy Robertson and insists Gilroy will be playing with them next campaign.

He said: "It is absolute rubbish. We have not heard anything from Bath, although I am not saying we are not going to.

"They would be wasting their time though as Dave is contracted here for another year and will not be leaving for Bath City."
