SWINDON Town will not be the Chelsea' of League Two and no-one should be under any illusion about the harsh realities of life in the basement.

While Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet both enjoyed some happy days at Stamford Bridge, it doesn't mean Swindon Town will suddenly adopt a snobbish approach to the spit and sawdust of the Football League's lowest tier.

The glamour of the Kings Road has been left firmly behind in west London.

Chief executive Mark Devlin says his new management team are well aware of that and although the pair's arrival has caused excitement among the supporters, the task ahead remains as challenging as it did when relegation was finally confirmed.

He said: "It's not going to be glamorous, it's going to be very tough.

"Nothing has to be beneath us' next year.

"Anyone who's frightened of a bit of hard working and mixing it with the teams in League Two is surplus to requirements, I would say.

"I think Dennis is going to get people who want to play for the club, have pride in their shirt and work their proverbials off.

"I'm looking for the same sort of resolve from everyone behind the scenes as well."

Devlin sees no worries on that front and believes recent developments have been extremely beneficial for the club as a whole, a club that has endured more than its fair share of pain, worry and despair in recent years.

He said: "Clearly Dennis and Gus have had a galvanising effect on the club.

"What we can now sense is a sense of optimism.

"People are looking forward to next season.

"We feel like a living, breathing organisation at the moment, not one that was a little out of breath and trying to catch itself.

"We're vibrant and upbeat."

And Devlin has confirmed director Bill Power's belief that the arrival of Messrs Wise and Poyet has opened doors that may previously have been shut in terms of recruitment.

Agents are happily clogging up Devlin's phone with helpful suggestions of players who would be ideal to join the Wise revolution.

"The amount of assistance' being offered does seem noticeably greater than it was prior to last Monday's announcement," said Devlin.

With Wise currently on holiday, Devlin is having to deal with a rumour mill going into overdrive.

He has already had to rubbish' numerous claims that certain players are bound for Town.
