SWINDON will need the full backing of more than 2,000 travelling fans at the New Den tomorrow.

That is the opinion of manager Danny Wilson ahead of Saturday’s potentially winner-takes-all game away at Millwall in the race for promotion.

The away section at the south east London ground has completely sold out for the final game of the League One campaign, and Wilson believes the red army’s support in good times and bad is crucial if his side are to sneak into second place.

“The atmosphere will be red-hot and we’ve given the fans a lot to shout about at away games throughout the season already,” said the boss. “But I’m sure they will be heard again. They were terrific at Southampton against a very good side, just like Millwall are.

“They were there to be heard, supported us throughout and keep us in a solid state of mind. I hope they do the same again on Saturday.

“We will be under the cosh at some stage and there will be a time when we have to batten down the hatches.

“But it’s those times when we need the fans the most. If they can help us get through those periods then I fancy us to get a good result.”

With both Town and Millwall’s fate also dependent on the result between Leeds and Bristol Rovers, Wilson revealed he will be kept aware of goings-on at Elland Road.

And a sudden influx of forwards from the bench could mean things are going in their favour.

“When there’s six strikers on the pitch then you’ll have an idea that one team can win it!” he joked.

“There will be lots of movement throughout and it will be like a chess game, but ultimately both teams want the same and that is a victory.

“We will have the scores being fed to us and it would be foolish not to want to know.

“It’s not going to make any difference to us because we have to win the game, but we could be in the lead and need to consolidate, we could be chasing the game and have to throw two players on, you don’t know. So we’ll make sure we know what’s going on.”
