SIMON Ferry has branded this afternoon’s crunch promotion battle between Town and Millwall at the New Den as the biggest of his short career.

The on-loan Celtic midfielder, who has been a lynchpin in the middle of the park for the Robins this season, believes today’s 90 minutes in south London present the perfect opportunity for Swindon’s inexperienced squad members to prove their composure amidst a whirlwind of media hype and supporter expectation.

“It’s probably the biggest game I’ve ever been involved in,” said Ferry.

“Obviously with the chance of going up, it will be a full house, and then with where it is and who it’s against, it’s massive.

“In these situations you have to just enjoy it and not feel pressured by it.

“You’ll sink or swim, and you have to be able to play in games like this if you want to go on and perform at the highest level.

“We’ve got good older players like Dougie (Jonathan Douglas) and Dave (David Lucas) who have played in big games before, and they’ll be able to tell us to calm down and get on with it.”

Despite going into the contest as underdogs, Ferry is confident Town have it in them to force a result at the Lions - a series of impressive away results convincing the Scot anything is possible ahead of the weekend’s fixture.

“Especially against the bigger teams we have good away form,” he said.

“We’ve been to places like Elland Road and Southampton and won so I don’t see why we can’t go there and win.

“It’s going to be a hard task but I think we’re definitely capable of doing it.”
