MINETY set the champagne corks popping after wrapping up a league and cup double at the weekend.

Albert Dearing’s men overwhelmed Byrons Wanderers 6-1 in the Wiltshire League Division One, to pip Blyskawica to top spot by a single point.

It is the second time in three seasons that they have scooped two trophies and the third year in a row they have won the league.

“It was a big year all-round and a big achievement,” said boss Dearing.

“Two things in particular helped us. A lot of sides have got one main player and if they are absent then they struggle.

“We have got four players of equal quality and if we are missing one of them then we don’t really miss them.

“The other big thing for us is that in the three years we have won the league, we have never had anyone sent off.”

Minety were 1-0 down heading into half time against Wanderers, only for Laurie Keith and Andy Mitchell to pounce with efforts to put them in front.

Five minutes after the resumption, Adam Mayhew hit a scorcher into the net from 25 yards to make it 3-1 and then the same man nodded in to increase the advantage further.

The goals kept coming as a Minety cross deflected off a defender and went in, before Keith finished off the victory.

After he chased down a seemingly lost cause, the goalkeeper’s clearance rebounded off the Minety man and into the net.

Elsewhere in the division, Chalke Valley crushed AFC NPower 5-1 as they finished third in the table.

Premier Division champions New College ended their season with a 4-2 victory over Pewsey Vale, as Josh Skeates slammed in a quickfire hat-trick in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Although Vale clawed back goals through Michael Martin and Tom Ritchie, Levi Cox added a fourth before the interval to complete the scoring.

Kevin Cook’s last game in charge of Wroughton was a 3-3 blockbuster at Corsham.

James Stone gave Corsham the lead before Brad Stanners’ brace put Wroughton ahead.

Stone pulled his team level before Liam Griffin hit a late penalty to seemingly give his team the win.

But Justin Flowers put away a spot kick of his own in the dying moments to ensure honours ended even.

Elsewhere, Purton were defeated 1-0 by Westbury United.

Wilton Town finished the season as champions of Division Two, as Chippenham Youth Reserves drew 0-0 with Marlborough Town Reserves. Wroughton Reserves drew 2-2 with Moredon Cheney.
