DANNY Wilson believes Town can use Blackpool as an inspiration for their own play-off semi-finals.
The Seasiders completed a memorable two-legged victory over Nottingham Forest earlier this week to book their place at Wembley and now stand just 90 minutes from a place in the top flight.
And Swindon boss Wilson, who has made no secret of his opinion that his side are underdogs in their imminent semi against Charlton, reckons Blackpool have proved that unfancied teams can prosper.
“We can draw a bit of comfort from it, can’t we?” he said. “Blackpool, the massive underdogs, have had a fantastic two games and given themselves a great shot at getting into the Premier League.
“It can also work the other way, but if we can draw any comfort from that, then terrific.
“I’ve said many times that the favourites label doesn’t mean a great deal in the play-offs because it’s a bit of a lottery.
“It would be great for Blackpool to get up there, and should we be able to emulate it then it would be fantastic. The favourites can be upset.”
Town have largely slipped under the radar of rivals and pundits alike during their rise up League One, but Wilson believes that is something which goes with the territory of competing against so-called big clubs.
And it is something which the manager is unconcerned about.
“It’s down to the size of the clubs who are in the play-offs, and they take the profile,” Wilson explained ahead of their first leg with the Addicks on Friday.
“Maybe outside of Swindon a lot of people won’t have seen us at all, so it’s understandable they don’t know much about us.
“We don’t get the profile of Leeds, Norwich or teams like that. But that doesn’t bother us, you just accept it and get on with it.
“We’re in an area that we’ve got to on merit, and we want to push on through. Whether people fancy us or not, I don’t really care.
“We’ve just got to give it our best shot over two games and see what happens.”
