PAUL Bodin has urged Swindon’s current crop of players to grasp their chance of playing at Wembley, with play-off fever bringing back some pleasant memories for the County Ground legend.

The former Welsh international was part of the Swindon side which triumphed under the Twin Towers in both 1990 and 1993.

And as Town entertain Charlton in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final tomorrow night, before making the return trip to The Valley on Monday, Bodin believes it is important to make the most of what could be a rare opportunity.

“I was lucky enough just through the play-offs to play at Wembley twice, but that doesn’t come along all the time and it is a great opportunity for them,” he told the Advertiser.

“Some of the younger lads may be thinking that if they miss out this time they will get there again, but careers fly by and before you know it you are in your 30s.

“They have to grasp it and enjoy it while it is here because it may not come around again.

“We are so close to having a magnificent season.

“The turnaround in the past year has been superb and there is no doubt that the club is making great progress both on and off the pitch.

“We got in the play-offs because we are a good, consistent side but we have got to get back to how we were playing a couple of months ago. We can’t give too much away on Friday.

“The first leg is all about keeping it tight, because the onus will be on Charlton to attack us in the second. If we can get a 0-0 or 1-1 then I wouldn’t be disappointed.

“We’ve had some great results both at home and away and done very well against most of the top sides and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again.”

Bodin now looks after Town’s youth team and has witnessed the lengthy queues for play-off tickets at the County Ground every day this week on his drive into the office.

And the 45-year-old is enjoying casting his mind back to some of the best days of his illustrious career.

“The last few days there have been people queueing for hours and hours for tickets,” said Bodin.

“The big games always create a buzz and there is that bubbling atmosphere around the club and the town in general.

“That was the same back when I was playing and it brings back some nice memories.

“The first play-off final was under Ossie (Ardiles) and the second under Glenn (Hoddle), and I remember them both quite well as they were big games.

“It was a great experience to be able to play at Wembley and I just hope the players can get there too and make it to the Championship.

“That would give the whole club from top to bottom a huge boost.”

Swindon Travel is offering coach tickets to Charlton on Monday for £12 as SAS Travel is nearly sold out.
