WEMBLEY-BOUND Town have joined forces with a County Ground fanatic to promote a new Boots For Life initiative.

JAG Communications store manager Steve Hooper came up with the concept of offering customers a voucher with which to buy football boots when they purchase a mobile phone contract.

The initiative is aimed at getting people fit and active, while also helping to provide the best equipment for anyone wanting to play the game, and Swindon jumped at the chance to get involved.

JAG Communications store manager Steve Hooper used to coach at the club’s Football in the Community centre and came up with the scheme following his own experiences.

He explained: “When I was coaching, kids would come up to me all the time and ask if they could play in trainers because they didn’t have any boots or their boots were old and worn out.

“I had just joined JAG Communications and was thinking of ways to be different and offer something different to our customers.

“There’s a lot of kids who don’t play football because they cannot afford boots, and I have seen that first hand.

“I was thinking of a way we can incorporate the two as a market that we can tap into.

“So instead of giving away consumable products like MP3 players and TVs as free gifts with our mobile phone contracts, we give them a voucher towards a new pair of football boots.

“I started promoting it about four weeks ago and have already had plenty of deals from it. There is a lot of interest around it and it seems to be going down really well.”
