DAVID Lucas looks set to start in goal for Swindon at Wembley on Saturday after coming through his first training session unscathed.
The keeper suffered what initially looked like a dislocated shoulder inside the first 38 seconds of the play-off semi-final second leg at Charlton last week, but it later proved to be badly jarred.
Lucas took part in a strenuous team workout on the County Ground pitch yesterday morning, and told the Advertiser he was delighted to be back in action ahead of the weekend’s League One play-off final against Millwall.
“I trained fully and didn’t feel it once so am really happy with it,” he said.
“It was my first proper day back at training. I did a bit on Friday, but no diving around or anything. This was the proper stuff though and it all seems really good.
“There are no problems at all. I got over the soreness at the end of last week and then rested it over the weekend, so I think it’s paid dividends.
“Once the initial soreness and stiffness faded awa,y then we were really happy with what was underneath.
“I’m just really happy because this time last week I just wanted to curl up and die.”
Alan Sheehan sat out training yesterday to complete his recovery from a pelvic injury, but 29-goal top scorer Billy Paynter shook off his hamstring strain to take part.
And boss Danny Wilson insists anyone wanting game time on Saturday will have to prove their fitness sooner rather than later.
“David trained well and it surprised me quite honestly because I didn’t think he would be anywhere near,” he said.
“Billy has trained as well and hasn’t been a problem at all, but Alan Sheehan had to rest.
“He had an injection and this was his last day of rest, so he will be back in training tomorrow.
“But I’ve stated to the lads that I want everybody training this week. I don’t want anybody turning up on Friday morning and saying they are fit because they won’t be considered.
“I need people to train all week, to be prepared and ready and to take the game plan into Saturday’s match.”
