ALAN Sheehan has rated himself as 50-50 for Town’s League One play-off final against Millwall at Wembley on Saturday.

The left-back, who missed Swindon’s sensational penalty shootout victory over Charlton in the semi-finals due to a pelvic injury, has not trained with the squad since and is desperately hoping for a minor miracle ahead of the showpiece finale this weekend.

“It’s a race against time. I had an injection on Thursday and I’ve been resting ever since,” he said.

“There’s definitely an improvement and I’m quite hopeful I’ll be okay to start working soon.

“I’m possibly 50-50, I’m so hopeful and I’m giving myself every chance to be involved. If there is any chance that I can play then I’ll be there.

“There’s only one game left and it’s quite an important one so I’m trying my best to be back.”

Sheehan moved to Wiltshire on loan from Leeds in November and has impressed both manager Danny Wilson and the County Ground crowd whilst playing a significant role in the Robins’ promotion push.

But despite having been told by his parent club that his services are no longer required in West Yorkshire, Sheehan remained coy when asked about what the future may hold for the him over the summer.

When questioned as to whether a permanent move to Town was on the cards, and if other clubs had shown interest in taking him elsewhere since Leeds granted his release, the 23-year-old preferred to answer ambiguously.

“My aim at the moment is just to get myself fit for Saturday and the rest will take care of itself,” he said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time down here and I’m glad to have been part of the team that has given us the chance of being one game away from being part of the Championship, which would have been an aim when I came down here. Hopefully I can play a part in getting them up.

“Who knows (if teams have enquired about him), I’m sure there’s people floating about, but we’ll just have to wait and see in the summer.”

Although missing the culmination of several months’ hard work would be deeply disappointing for the Irishman, Sheehan has insisted he will be behind Town at Wembley, whether he is part of the matchday squad or not.

“I’d like to see them win,” he said. “Obviously from a personal point of view I’m trying my best to be back and fit. I’m just praying that it will be alright.

“But if I’m not fit and not able to play I’ll be 100 per cent with the boys and cheering them on.”
