SUSPENDED captain Gordon Greer watched Town’s defeat from the dug-out and admitted everyone at the club is ‘devasted’ to miss out on promotion to the Championship.
Greer was banned for the Wembley showpiece after being sent-off in the play-off semi-final second leg against Charlton and claimed Town just didn’t perform on the day “We are devastated. The boys are disappointed because we are much better than we showed,” said Greer. “It’s devastating that we have missed out on the chance to be in the Championship.
“Millwall are a good team, we knew it would be close but I think the lads are disappointed because we didn’t play as well as we can.”
Despite the disappointment, Greer vowed the players will bounce back next season with all eyes firmly set on promotion.
“We are in the same position this year as MIllwall were last year. They were devasted they lost out but they have come back and done it this year.
“So we will come back stronger next season we will give it our all again and hopefully get promotion.”
Charlie Austin missed Town’s best chance of the game thanks to a now infamous bobble, but Greer refused to blame anyone but the whole team for Town’s defeat.
“Everyone is gutted for everybody not just Charlie. Charlie has done well to get into the position in the first place and the ball has just bobbled.
“We are a great team, we are not singling out individuals, it is not just about Charlie it’s down to the whole team.“
