DANNY Wilson has hailed the adaptability of Paul Caddis as the Scot prepares to slot into a central midfield berth for the second Saturday running.
Up until last weekend, Caddis had only started at right-back for Town since signing from Celtic in the summer, but he impressed in a midfield role in the 2-1 win at Walsall last Saturday, and now looks set for a second outing in that position against visiting Huddersfield this afternoon.
And manager Wilson believes that the ability of his summer signing to play in different areas of the field will prove a valuable weapon to Town this season.
“Paul is very versatile and confident in whatever position you put him in,” said Wilson.
“He can play left-back, right-back, not too sure about centre-half as he’s smaller than me, but any midfield area as well.
“His versatility was one of the plusses that he had when we knew we were going to be able to purchase him, so it’s fantastic that we have someone of that calibre available to us.”
Meanwhile, Wilson has admitted injuries to key players has made his favoured situation of having the option to pick from the full squad more difficult this season.
Town are without Charlie Austin (shoulder) and Simon Ferry (ankle) this afternoon, while David Lucas, Lecsinel Jean-Francois and Alan Sheehan have all spent time on the sidelines.
And the boss revealed: “We’ve not been as consistent as we would have liked in terms of the selection.
“I always like the choice of being consistent. Whether we do go and change the team is irrespective, but I do like to have a full compliment available.
“That hasn’t been the case this year, but I’m sure it will settle down as we go along and that none of the key players will be injured for any length of time because that will be a blow.”
The situation is in contrast to early last season, when Town were much more fortunate, and Wilson said: “This time last year we had none, so it works that way sometimes doesn’t it?
“You’re in the lap of the gods in one respect. Sometimes you get a little bit of luck and other times you find yourself unlucky, but there’s nothing you can do about it.
“We’ve got players at the club who hopefully will fill in areas where people may be injured, and hopefully they will be able to stay there as well which is added incentive for the lads coming in.”
