ADEN Flint is enjoying his ‘little and large’ partnership with Alan McCormack and is confident they can get back to helping Swindon keep clean sheets when they return to League Two action.
The pair had been at the heart of the defence when Town embarked on an impressive run of five games without conceding.
The Robins took a break from league football last week and finally saw their defence breached with AFC Wimbledon scoring in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last Tuesday, before Huddersfield also got a goal in the first round of the FA Cup at the weekend.
Fortunately both those goals conceded were ultimately in vain as Swindon progressed in both competitions, and focus now switches to resuming their promotion charge at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
And Flint has every confidence that he and McCormack can pick up right from where they left off in League Two.
“It is a good partnership, it is little and large as some people like to say,” said the former Alfreton Town defender.
“Alan is more the kind of player who can play the ball out from the back whereas I am just a stopper, although I do like to get the ball down and play it out sometimes.
“But we also have great full-backs at Swindon as well which helps. The rest of the back four and the goalkeeper take credit as well but the whole team is defending well.”
Flint also paid tribute to the impact of Wes Foderingham, with the on-loan Crystal Palace keeper aiming to make it a record-equalling six games without conceding in the league on Saturday.
He added: “He has had a massive impact, although we found out on Saturday that he is human after all!
“All the keepers we have are good and it has helped Wes that he has come in when the back four have been playing particularly well.
“He has got massive confidence from that and he has carried on from that.”
Town head into Saturday’s game high in confidence after producing one of their best performances of the season when they sent League One high-fliers Huddersfield crashing out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
It was the first time the Terriers had been beaten inside 90 minutes this season and when they had taken the lead at the County Ground, many expected a win for the West Yorkshire side to be a formality.
But Flint and the rest of his Swindon teammates clearly thought otherwise as they showed great resolve to hit back and seal a 4-1 win.
“Going 1-0 down in a game against Huddersfield is not easy to come back from but in a way it calmed us down, if that makes sense,” continued Flint.
“We became more confident and played our football and pushed on. We got the two goals before half time and we knew that another would finish the game off pretty much but then we went out and got two more goals.
“It was a good team performance. We did what we do best, soaked up the pressure and broke them down and we came away with a win.”
- SWINDON Town fans appeared on Soccer AM on Saturday alongside presenters Helen Chamberlain and Max Rushden.
The lucky eight to sit in the Luther Blissett were Ben Jarrett, David Crook, Craig Jones, Wes Pidgeon, Colin Yates, Terry Poole, Ryan Keech and Lewis Bryant.
Jarrett said: “It was a rush to sort it but we all had a great time with the Soccer AM gang.”
