SHRIVENHAM manager John Fisher thought his side should have come away with all three points from their clash at home to Holyport, but was content to take a 2-2 draw from the midtable battle.

The visitors went ahead after a cross drifted into the net with the help of a strong wind, but Shane Davies scored twice to give Shrivvy the lead, before it was cruelly snatched away with time running out.

“We had the better chances I think and we could have won, but the lads put in 100 per cent effort and I can’t fault that,” Fisher said.

“We could probably have been 3-0 up at half time and that would not have flattered us, but I think a draw is sometimes what you expect from games like this.

“It was a typical game of two sides who are just seeing the season out, as neither of us will be going down or winning anything, so to not lose was a positive.

“In that situation I suppose it is a little hard to get the players going, but I am pleased with the effort they have put in and the point is positive.

“What we really want to do, though, is to get into a bit of a winning run to end the season on a high and gain some momentum for next season.”

Highworth faced a difficult trip to league leaders Oxford City Nomads and came away with a creditable 1-0 defeat that leaves them seventh in the Hellenic Premier table.

Dave Webb’s side have between two and four games in hand on the four sides at the top of the league, and will be looking to take advantage when they face Fairford on Tuesday night.

Paul Braithwaite’s side will go into that game on the back of a 6-1 defeat away at Ascot United and will be looking for an instant response in their battle to avoid relegation.
