PAOLO Di Canio has targeted five more wins from Swindon’s 13 remaining games to secure promotion back to League One – starting with three points from tonight’s game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Town host the struggling Daggers looking to get back to winning ways after their superb run of successive victories was ended by local rivals Oxford at the weekend.

That run, though, was enough to propel the Robins to the top of League Two and move them onto 67 points after 33 games.

Last year, Wycombe secured the final automatic promotion place with 80 points and five more wins for Town would move them beyond that total.

“Five wins can be enough,” said Di Canio. “We have 67 points now and five wins will give us 82 points.

“That, in my opinion, will be enough to go up.

“The target is there, it is not close but not too far away either, and we know that if we win the next three games at home that we have, then we will be very close.

“If we win them then I am 99 per cent sure that we will go up.

“That is mathematics and not just my opinion.

“If we can get nine points from the next four games, that will give us 76 points and then we just need six points from nine games.”

Having had more time to reflect on Saturday’s defeat, Di Canio believes there were plenty of positives to take from Town’s overall performance.

“We can do much better of course and it was clear that some of my players were not playing at their full potential, but this can happen,” he added.

“Forgetting the 2-0 and the no points gained, the team as a whole proved in the way that they performed that we are two or three categories above many teams in this league.

“If we keep going like we played then we will win more games and go up I am sure.”

Meanwhile, Di Canio confirmed that he does not expect to sign a new striker before tonight’s game, although is hoping to be able to report some positive news very soon.

The Town boss added: “There won’t be anyone before tonight’s game but I hope to be able to say something afterwards.”
