JOHN Fisher is not a happy man going into his Shrivenham side’s double header this weekend.
Shrivvy travel to struggling Fairford tomorrow expecting to take all three points from the side sitting third bottom of the Hellenic Premier, but two days later are forced to travel to Binfield who currently lie sixth.
The Berkshire side have played their home games on Monday nights for the past two seasons in a bid to attract extra numbers to their Hill Farm Lane ground, but Fisher is not happy with the arrangements.
A number of the Shrivenham players also play Sunday league football meaning they are faced with three games in three days, and Fisher is concerned.
“With the amount we are able to give the players we are not able to control their lives for them, so if they want to play Sunday football then they are well within their rights to. But it does present us with a little bit of a problem,” he said.
“Three games in three days is a lot, and I have told the players that if they pick up any sort of a knock in their Sunday game then they must tell me straight away so we can make other plans.
“I do not really understand why Binfield play on Monday nights, it makes no sense. They say it is to get extra fans in, but how many do they really expect to get? Five men and their dogs?
“If I went to the league and said to them that I wanted Shrivenham to play at home on Thursday nights they would say no, because it is too close to the weekend. So I do not see why Monday nights are any different to that.
“It makes me angry and it is not fair on us, but it is what we have to deal with and we will get on with it.”
Before that Shrivvy must deal with local rivals Fairford, but Fisher is not expecting a repeat of his side’s 6-1 victory earlier in the season.
“Fairford is always a hard place to go,” he said. “I don’t know why but we have always had hard games there, and I am sure this will be another one.
“It won’t be another 6-1, that is for sure, but we do go there expecting to win because of our positions in the league. That is not us being arrogant, that is just the way it is at all levels of football.”
Elsewhere in the division, Highworth will be looking to build on their midweek victory over Fairford when they take on Shortwood.
