LUKE Rooney is relishing the arrival of Cheltenham at the County Ground tomorrow and the winger fancies Swindon to continue their good form against teams at the top end of League Two.
Town seem to fare particularly well against sides who set out to attack the Robins and have already beaten the likes of Crawley, Southend and Shrewsbury this year.
Those wins helped move Swindon to the top of the standings and push their rivals further away from, and three points tomorrow will send Town nine points clear of second-place Cheltenham.
And Rooney, who will be hoping for a return to the starting 11 after impressing from off the bench on Tuesday night, has backed Town to continue their impressive form in the big games.
“We have done very well against the teams in and around us and then we have followed that up by doing well against the teams who are struggling, so to speak,” the former Gillingham man told the Advertiser.
“Cheltenham will come here and will have a go at us and it will be a good game of football between two good sides.
“They have had a fantastic season, but hopefully we can come out on top like we did against Crawley and Shrewsbury at the County Ground and continue to carry our rich vein of form into the big games.”
Town suffered their first defeat of 2012 against Oxford last Saturday, but bounced back in perfect fashion with a big win over Dagenham & Redbridge in midweek.
With 12 games remaining, Rooney knows it would take a monumental effort to win every single one of those, but insists that he and the rest of the players will give it their best to achieve just that.
“I was bitterly disappointed last Saturday, as were all the players as we know how much it means for the fans,” he added.
“You have to move on, a team who wants to win the league has to be able to move on quickly and as big a disappointment it was personally and as a team, we had to move on and we did that on Tuesday.
“I think everyone will drop points between now and the end of the season. I would probably be lying if I said that we would win every game between now and the end of the season, although I do think we possibly could and we will certainly give it a good go to do that.”
