IF HE could, Shrivenham Town manager John Fisher would have walked out of his side’s clash with Fairford after 20 minutes.

Shrivvy eventually fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 thanks to goals from Paul Sanders and Martin Stratford, but Fisher was not impressed with what he saw.

The result was the visitors’ third straight 2-2 draw, but Fisher insisted it was not as entertaining as it sounded.

“As a spectacle, it really was dire,” he said. “I think anybody who came to watch would ask for their money back, and I would have walked out after about 20 minutes.

“I asked the linesman how long was left 20 minutes into the game and found out we had 25 minutes plus a whole half to play, it really was that bad.

“The pitch didn’t help really as it was not in good condition and there was no grass on it at all, but you have to be pleased when you come back from 2-0 down.

“Fairford probably had the better of the chances so the draw is a good result.

“We showed some character which was very pleasing and we will take some positives from the game going forward.”

The match was the first of a run of three games in three days for a lot of the Shrivenham players, with Sunday League football sandwiched between the Fairford game and tonight’s visit to Binfield.

“We didn’t pick up any injuries which is good looking forward to tonight,” Fisher said.

“I would take a draw from the Binfield game as it will be a tough one on us, but we just have to get on with it.”

Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier, Highworth put in a good display to beat Shortwood 2-1 and move up to fifth in the table.

In Division One West, New College Swindon hit top form as they won 6-3 away at Headington, while Malmesbury drew 1-1 at home to Lydney.

Cricklade also drew as their clash at home to Winterbourne ended goalless.
